Is It Time For Your Child To Start Wearing Deodorant?

When you have children, it’s understandable that you want them to stay a baby forever but before you know it, they’re graduating kindergarten, learning to ride a bike and hitting that dreaded puberty stage. Where did the time go?

For most children, puberty usually starts around 9 - 14 years old, but there are cases of puberty starting younger and older than this age bracket.

Whatever age your child hits puberty, it will come with a whole lot of new things they will have to deal with, including body odor.

There’s no right age for a child to start using deodorant or antiperspirant to combat their body odor. You may think that they’re still too young to be spraying toxins on their sensitive skin. As well as having a daily hygiene routine to combat the body odor, there are alternative, natural options that are perfect for children.

Deodorant vs. Antiperspirant

Most people use these terms interchangeably thinking that they mean the same thing, but actually there are huge differences between the two.

Antiperspirant stops perspiration by acting as a plug. Deodorant eliminates body odor but doesn’t necessarily stop sweating. Although an antiperspirant could work for the self-conscious teen, their sensitive skin may react to the chemicals found in antiperspirants, resulting in harmful effects.

Antiperspirants contain parabens and aluminum which can be harmful and may cause irritations and lead to medical problems such as breast cancer.

If you’re concerned about your child or teenager using such a harmful product, there are natural deodorant solutions that you can consider.

Choosing A Safe Deodorant For Children

Not only does natural deodorant work well in eliminating body odor and doesn’t contain any nasty chemicals, but it’s a great choice for children who have sensitive skin and allergies. They’re not designed to stop your child from sweating as body perspiration is natural and necessary for our bodies to clear out toxins. But the good news is that children don’t necessarily sweat a lot as they go through puberty.

nakd. Thai Crystal Deodorant is a great choice for your young person as it only has one ingredient: natural mineral salt. There are no hidden ingredients, is hypoallergenic and contains no alcohol or emulsifiers so you can trust that it is safe to use.

It even comes with a travel-size stick so your child can take it to school and apply the deodorant after PE class or as and when they need it.

It’s good to keep in mind that children respond to products differently and it may take a few days for their skin and bodies to get used to a natural deodorant. If used correctly, it should be effective within a week.

If in the rare case, your child’s body odor gets worse, doesn’t improve or they are sweating excessively, it may be a sign of an underlying problem that may need to be checked out by your doctor.
